09/23/21; Week 02: Response to "Is the Great American Teacher Dead?"

I have many feelings reading this great article and some questions came into my mind. Is the great teacher dead? and I understood that great teachers have many things to give, for example, understand the content they are teaching and how it is learnt. Also a supportive environment is characterised by relationships of trust and respect between students and teachers, and among students. Great teachers manage the classroom to maximise students' opportunities to learn.
Some possible upcoming challenges and successes in a TESOL classroom will be:
Learning the Language without a Goal.
- Bored by Traditional Learning Methods.
- Feelings of Embarrassment.
- Not Enough Time.
- Lack of Interaction with Native Speakers.

There are many things that a teacher could help resolve theirs students' challenges and celebrate their successes. When students receive positive feedback for something that they have done, it is essentially a signal to their brain saying 'do it again'. Celebrating success is an essential element of every classroom. It is the driver behind student motivation, self-esteem, and creating a positive classroom culture.

As I read in the article of Dr. Ivers. It's essential to know some of elements in the art of teaching. For instance, some qualities of a good teacher include skills in communication, listening, collaboration, adaptability, empathy and patience. Other characteristics of effective teaching include an engaging classroom presence, value in real-world learning, exchange of best practices and a lifelong love of learning. Also effective teachers demonstrate a deep understanding of the curriculum. They plan, teach, and assess to promote mastery for all students. Effective teachers provide high-quality instruction to increase student achievement for all students by providing researched-based instruction filled with technology integration.

We, as a teacher, can improve little by little by different experiences. We have to complete the mission, the first order of business is to take care of the troops. If one takes care of the troops, the mission will have the best chance of success. If we take care of our students, our mission of educating them will be greatly facilitated. Even though we may never be able to perfectly.
