10/29/21; Week 7: Cultural Students in the Classroom

First of all, it’s important to know about Cultural diversity that is a variety of differences that exist between people or organizations. Cultural refers to the backgrounds, customs, and beliefs that contribute to a person's understanding of the world. In this multicultural world, students need to experience diversity outside of their immediate environments. Some experts believe that children begin to develop their cultural identity when they were born. Other experts have found that children develop ideas about racial identity and the characteristics of cultural groups different from yours already at 3 year old. Young children's knowledge of cultural diversity is influenced by experiences with others, but primarily from members of the family.

Cultural diversity in the classroom encourages us to create universal values and the educational community. Currently, diversity in the classroom is a fact that we cannot deny. The class spaces have become places of coexistence for very diverse groups of students. This implies different nationalities, cultures, socioeconomic levels and capacities that are also very different.

As teachers we must take diversity in the classroom very seriously and adapt to it through student focused methodologies. The good news is that diversity in the classroom enriches us all, the students, the teaching team, the rest of the professionals in the school and the educational community, and society as a whole.

Didactic methods such as the learning pyramid are very useful in inclusive education because they allow us to directly observe how the learning of each student is developing. As a consequence, the early detection of possible problems and areas for improvement will be promoted with a global and inclusive vision.
