Miscommunication between cultures causes
a lot of difficulties and terrible things. And so, it is very important to
understand that miscommunication is always a great possibility. Now, a very
common miscommunication is that for example, people from Latin America tend to
be very, very kind and they don't want to hurt your feelings and in America
unfortunately people are not that conscious about not hurting feelings.
Cultural differences causes behavior
and personality differences like body language, thinking, communication,
manners which leads to miscommunication. And how culture affect learning
English, in vocabulary, for example, people should learn the grammar rules, the
words, spelling, and the pronunciation in English classes but only through studies
you will learn about the cultural of the English language.
The teacher should try to connect the
students with new cultural realities. We can speak of an interaction process
where the student develops their own interpretations from relationships between
the mother's culture and that of the language she learns, their target
language. As a result of these interactions, cultural awareness is fostered rational,
dynamic, critical and reflective.
Teachers value more to provide
information about daily life and customs, diverse cultural manifestations such
as literature, music, theater etc. and those objectives with a lower level of
attention are those related to develop a greater understanding of the student's
own culture.
Teachers have a lot of difficulties
when teach cultural aspects in language class. Lack of time, type of
curriculum, lack of appropriate material and a lack of training preparation are
aspects that we have to highlight to try to strengthen them.
